Jewitchery

According to Urban Dictionary, a Jewitch is: "One who practices a combination of Judaism and Wicca."

I have been doing an enormous amount of reading about Judaism lately.  The culture is absolutely fascinating!  And...anyone who has known me more than 10 min. knows I'm a Wiccan.

In my mind here's how the two combine:  Replace "God" with Gods/Goddess as necessary!  Seriously!  There are a few things about Judaism I am still trying to wrap my head around.  I am not running-off to the nearest synagogue to convert!

The thing about Judaism is...it's more of a culture, a way of life...less a religion!  You can be Jewish and be almost anything else...

From the Jewish Women's Archive: "Jewitchery, whose members identify as “Jewitches” or “Judeo-Pagans” or “JAPs” (Jewish American Pagans… ha!) are Jewish women who practice witchcraft, Wicca, or other “goddess-directed worship.” Examples of Jewitch practice include the incorporation of magic into Jewish rituals, welcoming the shekhinah (the divine feminine), and lighting yahrzeit candles to honor the dead. Jewitchery.com offers Jewitches—or “witchy Jews” as some prefer to be called—a space to explore Judeo-Pagan ideas such as the Shabbat Bride or Queen as an actual goddess and a Jewitch’s perspective of deity."

Being Jewish (at least from my understanding) is akin to being Polish...you are always going to be Polish, there are traditional Polish things you will always believe & do...but being Polish doesn't have to dictate what you believe...make sense?

At this point I don't feel I am explaining this very well...it's just something I've been reading about and I am curious if any of you have an opinion...please leave comments and share links...

Peace & love dear readers :c)

Review: Becoming Jewish: The Challenges, Rewards, and Paths to Conversion

Becoming Jewish: The Challenges, Rewards, and Paths to Conversion
Becoming Jewish: The Challenges, Rewards, and Paths to Conversion by Steven Reuben

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I took a very long time to finish this book. I really wanted to read it thoroughly and understand everything!

I can honestly say...I am in no danger of Becoming Jewish anytime soon! Judaism has a lot of wonderful qualities, but I still cannot reconcile the 1 god thing...

A wonderful resource for anyone wanting to convert or just learn more about Judaism!

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering.  And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers.  You consider that to be evidence that prayer works.  And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Perry's pastor pal Jeffress called 'a poster boy for hatred'

Story courtesy of USA Today:

Have you been condemned by Gov. Rick Perry's pastor pal Robert Jeffress yet today?

If not, you can check out the Morman-faith-bashing pastor in his own voice at Right Wing Watch. Or read up on how Jeffress told First Baptist Dallas on Sunday that

- Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Mormonism are all false religions and I stand by those statements.

Oh, and Catholicism, too. Religion News Service's daily roundup updates us on Jeffress' Catholic-bashing, noting the Catholic League item today on Jeffress, who last year had this to say about Catholicism:

- "Much of what you see in the Catholic Church today doesn't come from God's word. It comes from that cult-like pagan religion. Isn't that the genius of Satan?"

League voice Bill Donohue calls Jeffress,

- a poster boy for hatred, not Christianity.

RNS also catches us up with the questionable legality of the pastor's politicized preaching.

Americans United for the Separation of Church and State has asked the IRS to investigate whether Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress flouted federal law when he put a video clip about his endorsement of presidential candidate Rick Perry on the church's web site.

The Satan-slinging religious exchanges in the presidential primary campaign so far are starting to sound like an episode from South Park.

However, Southern Baptist theologian Al Mohler upholds the idea that voters of faith might likely want to choose a candidate who shares their Biblical worldview. But no way is he climbing out on the ledge with Jeffress. Mohler blogs:

...We must be honest and acknowledge that there are non-Christians or non-evangelicals who share far more of our worldview and policy concerns than some others who identify as Christians. The stewardship of our vote demands that we support those candidates who most clearly and consistently share our worldview and combine these commitments with the competence to serve both faithfully and well.

RANTING!

Keep your religion out of the government!  Not everyone is a Christian!  Get over it!  We are not all nor do we all want to be Christians!  Don't pray for guidance in how to run the nation/state!  Use your education and the opinions of the people you are supposed to be representing!  ALL of the people...not just the Christian people!  I am so tired of Christians saying America is a "Christian" nation!  The Founding Fathers would HATE that!  They founded this country to be a place for people of ALL religions!!!  How hard is it to separate your religion from your job????  Keep the Bible out of the court rooms and off public property!  Take "God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance and off our money!  God has NO PLACE in American government on any level!!!!!!!!!!
