Good Morning

Good morning my lovely followers!

As you may have noticed the blog & Facebook pages have undergone a lot of changes lately.  I am constantly adding new content, feeds, "columns", etc...

I am also, painfully I might add, aware of the severe lack of "personal" information on the blog.  It seems to have become a bit clinical/sterile.  This is totally my fault!  I have Asperger's Syndrome and I'm not a big sharer!  I want to talk to you all and make the blog more personal...it's just not always easy to find the words...

That said...I am going to try to make more of an effort.  You will always find all of the other junk you have come to know & love here...but I will be trying to add a bit more personality :c)

BTW: How amazing is the new look???  Kim at Life in a House of Testosterone is amazing!!!

Have a groovy day & love you all :c)

Why Don't You Just Date a Guy?

**Courtesy of ButchWonders.com**

Femmes are always being forced to explain to people that just because they date women who "dress like men," it doesn't mean that deep down, they "really want a man."  I can only speak for myself, but I bet some of the following is true for other readers who date butches.

Dating a butch is nothing like dating a guy.  There are many reasons for this.  Some are physical.  For example, men have way more body hair.  Ugh.  Also, regardless of their gender presentation, women have curves that men do not.  A butch doesn't always let the world see these curves, but if you're her lover, you get to be up close and personal with them, and there's something special about this.  Plus, women are soft!

A man in a tie and a woman in a tie project entirely different energies.  Both people might exude strength, and both might even exude masculinity, but the nature of that masculinity is quite different.  To me, there's something quietly subversive and original about a woman's masculine energy.  It may be queer, deviant, or nonconformist. It may co-opt traditional trappings of power without embodying them.

One of the joys of dating women is that you get to create everything from scratch.  When a woman dates a man, there's an inherent gender script already written.  Defaults exist about everything from child-rearing to household chores.  True, many people deviate from these (though I'd argue that more don't).  But many straight people, even very nontraditional ones, don't seem to find the mere existence of this script uncomfortable.  But when I was with a man, I was deeply aware of it.  As progressive and gender-enlightened as my DXH was (and is), I felt great unease that these norms existed.  I couldn't help but be intensely aware of them.  I didn't like how people perceived and related to me as the female member of a hetero couple. It felt awkward, as if I was always "doing" femininity wrong.

And of course, if it's a heterosexual man asking you this question, you could always respond by asking why he doesn't just date a man in a dress.

Thoughts on Thanksgiving...

Hello again fair readers!  I hope all is well with you!

As you may know, tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the US!  There is a lot of controversy this time of year, because of the horrible things done to the Native American people by the British settlers!

I am married to a woman who is part Cherokee Indian...so we are particularly sensitive about this issue!

That said...I would like to reflect on our modern Thanksgiving and share with you a few thoughts about this secular holiday!

Please pardon me while I share a bit about the history of Thanksgiving...

Though it was not called Thanksgiving at the time, what we recognize as the first Thanksgiving feast was celebrated in 1621 by the pilgrims of the Plymouth colony along with about 90 Wampanoag Indians.  The Pilgrims had suffered through a devastating winter in which nearly half their number died.  Without the help of the Indians, all would have perished.

After the first harvest, Governor William Bradford proclaimed a "...day of thanksgiving and prayer to God."  The food, which was eaten outdoors, included corn, geese, turkeys, ducks, eel, clams, leeks, plums, cod, bass, barley, venison and corn bread.  The feast lasted 3 days.  Though the exact date is unknown, the feast clearly took place in late autumn.

In 1623, a period of drought was answered by colonists with a proclamation of prayer and fasting.  This prayer and fasting was changed to another thanksgiving celebration when rains came during the prayers.  Later that year, Governor Bradford proclaimed November 29 as a time for pilgrims to gather and "listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings."

Throughout American history, there were many thanksgiving proclamations and celebrations.  In 1789 George Washington proclaimed a National Thanksgiving Day on the last Thursday in November, in honor of the new United States Constitution.  Thomas Jefferson, the third president, later discontinued it, calling it "a kingly practice."

In 1863, Sarah Josepha Hale, the author of the poem "Mary Had a Little Lamb," convinced Abraham Lincoln to proclaim Thanksgiving a national holiday.  For the date she chose the last Thursday in November because of Washington's proclamation.  In 1941, it was officially changed to the fourth Thursday in November.

Obviously, this was more than 350 years ago, and people had different attitudes towards social rights & wrongs!  So, at the time, the British thought they were doing nothing wrong...and according to society's attitude at the time, they weren't!

We think now, that they were wrong and the way the native people were treated was atrocious!!!  (at least most people I talk to do)...

So...what does any of this rambling have to do with my thoughts on Thanksgiving???

I think Thanksgiving is a time for being thankful for all of the "gifts" you have in your life!  Your family, friends, pets, home, car, freedom, whatever you have been blessed with!

There is nothing practical that can be done about the horrors visited upon the Native Americans...America is never going to say, "We are so sorry, here's your country back!"...it's not realistic!  Would it be the right thing to do?  Some say, "Yes!"...I don't really know what the solution is or should be...

What we can do, however, is rethink Thanksgiving and mold it into a holiday where everyone, no matter what their heritage, stops for a moment and gives thanks to who/whatever they believe in, for the blessings in their lives!

This Thanksgiving I am particularly thankful for my wife!  We've had a rough few years with her health...she is still undergoing a lot of tests and we are far from an answer...but she is here and for that I am extremely grateful!

With all of that said, I pose this question to you...please feel free to leave your answer int eh comments of this post...

What are you most grateful for this Thanksgiving?

Harry Potter

I am having a Harry Potter movie marathon today...

I will admit to not liking Harry Potter much when I first became aware of it's existence 10 years ago...since then I have read all of the books, listened to them on audio, and am now watching the movies...

I prefer the books...I like all of the details and side stories that weren't in the movies.

I am hopeful, that some time in the future, when our children are in charge, they will remake them as a TV mini-series and be able to stay true to the books.  Each one will be 6 or 7 hours long (probably some more than 12)...but it would be worth it to do justice to JK Rowling's books :c)

Not Like the Other Girls...

I am not like most of the women my age...

I am not a mom...our kid is grown...I am, however, a doggie mommy...

I am not straight...I am, in fact, a lesbian!

I am not a Judeo/Christian believer...I am 100% proud Pagan...I am a WITCH!

I like football...I believe that Sundays (and some Saturdays) are best spent on the couch, with the dogs, yelling at a football game!

I don't watch soap operas, Desperate Housewives, or the "Real Housewives" of anything...give me a good SciFi show or documentary any day!

I don't work...

I don't drink...I am a recovering alcoholic...I will be 18 years sober in June!

I have cancer and I WILL NOT EVER do chemo again!  I am going to die...Don't we all???

All of these things...and so many others...make me "not like the other girls"...it makes finding a community hard!  Where we live, the only LGBT community is either more than an hour away or a church...me in a church...riiiiiight <insert Dr. Evil tone here>!

All of the websites aimed at people my age are for folks with kids...no kids!

All of the websites for people w/o kids are either for senior citizens or 20-somethings...

Where is the community for the in-betweeners?  Once again...part of the silent minority...

RANTING!

Keep your religion out of the government!  Not everyone is a Christian!  Get over it!  We are not all nor do we all want to be Christians!  Don't pray for guidance in how to run the nation/state!  Use your education and the opinions of the people you are supposed to be representing!  ALL of the people...not just the Christian people!  I am so tired of Christians saying America is a "Christian" nation!  The Founding Fathers would HATE that!  They founded this country to be a place for people of ALL religions!!!  How hard is it to separate your religion from your job????  Keep the Bible out of the court rooms and off public property!  Take "God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance and off our money!  God has NO PLACE in American government on any level!!!!!!!!!!

Ruminations...

Why do we do the things we do to one another?

When will we realize that everyone's faith/beliefs are as valid as our own?

Why can't people leave others alone to love who they choose?

When will people let God speak for His/Her-self?

Why do people find it necessary to knock on my door and try to preach at me?

How hard can it really be to stop spending money on crap we don't need and spend it on the things we do?

Why can't the governor live in a trailer?

Why do children/teens NEED multiple activities that keep them/their parents out until 9:00 p.m. EVERY night of the week?

How hard is it to cook dinner for your family every night?

Do you really NEED a 7 passenger SUV?

Why should people who don't have kids have to pay school taxes?

***These are the things I ponder when left alone and over medicated on cold/allergy pills :c)

Trying Too Hard (or not hard enough?)!

Sometimes I wonder...all of the people who tell me, "You can't give-up!" "You have to keep trying!"...I wonder what these people would do in my place!

I am tired!  It's that simple!

I have been sick for a very long time and I have been "fighting" for a VERY long time!  I am tired!

I am dying...that much is not in dispute!  How I choose to die should be up to me!

I love my friends!  I really really really do!  And I know that people are just trying to be helpful and keep my spirits up...

Sometimes though...I just want to lay down with my dogs and not move!  This is not giving-up!  It's called tired! I am tired ALL the time!  I am never not tired...not even for a second!

So please...if I am too tired to chat or go to dinner or play games on Facebook/Pogo...please do not see this as giving-up!  See it for what it is...I am just tired!

Much love!

A Bit Sad...

I'm a bit sad today...I closed all of the Incredimail groups I owned on Yahoo except one (my always list)...this is the end of a very long journey for me...I have been on /owned IM groups for 10 years...I just can't keep-up anymore.

It's very strange!  I have met some of my best friends through these groups...

Anyway...I am going to make some tea and finish the episode of Ally McBeal I am watching...

Have a wonderful rest of today readers...

Food Poisoning...Really??!!??

Ok...so...I've got food poisoning!

Saturday night, Cris made salad w/grilled pork...YUM-O!  We're not sure what happened, the pork was fresh from the market, but she woke-up really sick on Sunday (she's a bit sensitive to pork anyway, so we figured she just ate too much).  Then Monday, I got terrible stomach cramps and started throwing-up, running fever (and a few other things I won't torment you with)...EW! OW!

Long story short...she's better now...I am still miserable!  I'm getting better!  I am keeping toast & yogurt down...but my stomach is still cramping!

Anyway...if I'm not on as much as usual...now you know why...

Peace Out reader folks!
